Mr. Ed Wentworth, Junior High & High School Counselor
Mr. Wenworth loves school so much, he lives right across the street from the elementary school. He earned a Bachelor’s of Arts in English Education from Concordia College, Moorhead, Minnesota, and is currently working on a Masters in School Counseling from Capella University. He has spent sixteen years working as a 7-12 English teacher at Bisbee-Egeland, North Sargent, and most recently, Oakes High School. He has a lifelong passion for building relationships and working with students to plan for the future. Ed Wentworth is married to Maureen Wentworth, one of the Central Office Administrative Assistants at OPS. They have two children: Estella and Franklin, who are currently in Oakes Elementary. In his free time, Ed enjoys golfing at area courses, eating popcorn at the Oakes movie theater, reading a good book, and spending time with family and friends.

Through a compassionate counseling program students at Oakes High School will gain the resiliency to overcome challenges throughout their lives and the knowledge and skills to be successful in all their goals.
OHS Counseling Program Mission:
Oakes High School’s school counseling program provides a comprehensive program that follows national models and evidence-based practice to assist students in their academic, career, and personal/social development to better prepare them for tomorrow’s world.
OHS Counseling Program Goals:
I. Planning and Preparation
Goal: To plan classroom guidance lessons formed around the ASCA National Standards, that cover all three domains (academic, career, personal/social), and give these lessons monthly throughout the year to all 7-12th grade students.
II. Counseling
Goal: To conduct needs assessments and collaborate with staff to better understand needs of the students and provide individual/group counseling and guidance lessons in areas of need.
Goal: To create a system that allows for better means for me to see the students/them to see me.
III. Family and Community Outreach
Goal: To become a main point of contact for families and the community regarding student(s) at the high school and utilize them to meet the needs of students.
IV. Professional Responsibilities
Goal: To keep up on current professional knowledge by attending workshops/conferences where I can build network opportunities and utilize this within the school.
