Graduation Requirements Effective for the Class of 2011

Policy FBF--GRADUATION
Graduation from the Oakes High School implies that students have satisfactorily completed the prescribed courses of study for the several grade levels in accordance with their respective abilities to achieve and that they have satisfactorily passed any examinations and other requirements set by the faculty. Students must be in attendance at Oakes High School and in a program approved by the district administration to receive a diploma from Oakes High School. In addition, students shall have maintained a satisfactory record of citizenship during their progress through the instructional program of the schools.
The requirements for graduation shall be established in keeping with the state school code and the accreditation policies of the North Central Association of Secondary Schools. It is understood that some students will be involved in special and adaptive programs, successful completion of which will result in graduation.

All students, regardless of program, must earn 22 credits for graduation, including the following:
1. English, 4 credits;
2. Mathematics, 3 credits;
3. Science, 3 credits; including
a. 1 credit of Physical Science,
b. 1 credit of Biology, and
c. 1 credit or 2 half credits of any other science course
4. Social Studies, 3 credits; including
a. 1 credit of US History,
b. 1 credit of Problems of Democracy, and
c. 1 credit or 2 half credits of any other social studies course.
5. Physical Education 1credit; including
a. One half credit of Physical education, and
b. One half credit of health,
6. Three credits of
a. Foreign language,
b. Native American language,
c. Fine arts, or
d. Career and Technical courses
7. Any five additional credits
