What is being planned at Oakes Public Schools for the next five years? – December 2018

By Mr. Steinhoff, Superintendent

The Oakes Public Schools have been busy this fall working with Dr. Jeffery Schatz, the former Superintendent at Fargo Public Schools, with the creation of the 2019-2024 strategic plan.  This plan will be utilized to set priorities, focus energy and resources, strengthen operations, and ensure that employees, board members, and stakeholders are working toward common goals.  This process will produce fundamental decisions and actions to shape and guide the future of our school district.

The first step of our process was an opportunity for stakeholders and patrons to engage in a discussion about the strengths and challenges facing the district in the near and far future.  This opportunity was held on September 17thin the South Gym.  The strategic planning committee, which includes 19 people comprised of staff, students, parents, Board members, and community members, has been meeting to provide feedback and collaborate on the creation of the strategic plan which will be presented to the OPS School Board at their meeting in February.  The strategic plan is currently in draft form and includes the following:

Our Mission

Achieving excellence by educating all students for tomorrow’s world.

Our Vision

Our Vision for the future is to create personalized educational experiences that will prepare each student to develop the skills essential for their success.  Those skills include critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and creativity.  We will accomplish this by supporting our students in their intellectual, social, and personal growth in a community that is safe and conducive to learning

Our Commitments

Our Commitments: Respect, Genuine Relationships, Growth MindsetStrategic Initiatives

  1. Academic Engagement and Personalized Learning
  2. School Culture and Climate
  3. Community Outreach and Family Engagement
  4. Resource Management and Planning

As I stated earlier, this plan is in draft form and needs to get approval from the School Board before being adopted as the strategic plan for 2019-2024.  After the strategic plan is approved, it will be reviewed annually to monitor progress and report the progress to ensure that the strategic plan stays at the forefront of priorities at OPS.  If you have questions regarding the draft plan, please contact me at 701-742-3234 or email me at kraig.steinhoff@k12.nd.us.
